Extended glyphs in Markdown via Smartypants
Hi,
Is there any chance of squeezing Smartypants into Perch to add support for characters such as em-dashes and ampersands?
Markdown rocks, but unforunately it doesn't natively support
HTML entities such as — which means that
content creators are unable to use a broad range of punctuation
marks.
Michel Fontin has ported Dan Gruber's Smartypants to PHP -- PHP Smartypants.
Keeping my fingers crossed,
Andy.

Is Smartypants an alternative to or an extension of Markdown?

Smartypants extends Markdown.

Excellent :)
I'm really impressed with your responsiveness.
Many thanks,

I'd like to echo the request for Smartypants support. Having my site populated with dumb quotes and hyphens is unappealing, to say the least.
An alternative would be to use Pandoc, which extends Markdown -- builds in Smartypants, adds syntax for tables, footnotes, and other cool stuff.
Just bought Perch and it's kicking ass so far!

We're currently looking into this with a view of adding it in v1.5
